We were all in slight shock when it was announced that We Love, the Ibiza institution synonymous with Sundays in Space was moving to Sankeys Ibiza for the summer.
Moving on after 17 years at former home Space, We love will be reliving it’s old school roots in acid house in Sankeys every Wednesday for a 16 week residency from the 17th of June through to the 30th of September.
Opening on the 17th of June, We Love at Sankeys Ibiza have announced Black Butter Records artists Rudimental as well as Kidnap Kid, Nvoy, The 2 Bears, T.Williams, Kaz James and Jason Bye.
So the million dollar question on everyone’s lips is, why move from Space to Sankeys? Darren Hughes, founder says – ‘My answers have been this, ‘ to answer why I have decided to leave Space is like asking me why I decided to leave my family home at 17, or why I decided to approach James Barton to start Cream in 1992, or why I left Cream in 1998, or start Home at Space / We Love Space in 1999, the answer is the same, it felt like it had come to the point of change, to leave or to start, it is the same.
What We Love was at Space was a 17 year journey, one that is now behind me, however, what is in front of me is what We Love Sankeys will be, made by the people who will produce it, with myself, the people closest to the project, the artists who will play, and the people who will come to the events, this has no number attached to it, We Love will not be trying to reproduce what it was for 1, 2,3, or 10,000 people, it is a new beginning, and that is the key to what will follow. Lets find out what will be, together.”
We Love is a true melting pot of music styles and not beholden to one genre which makes this night so iconic and successful on such a competitive island. Across the 16 week run, We Love will be bringing to the island, Daniel Avery, Detroit Swindle, Dusky, Friend Within, Annie Mac, Gorgon City, Huxley, Ivan Smagghe, Jasper James, Justin Robertson, Optimo, SG Lewis, Theo Kottis of Moda Black/Get Physical, Zac Samuel as well as Bugged Out and Eton Messy.
With Sankeys two main rooms, the diversity of We Love will be celebrated across each lineup, not limited to just House and Techno, with acts like Sasha, Hannah Wants, Gorgon City, James Zabiela, Rudimental and everything in between!
This season’s residents include the much loved Jason Bye and Andy Baxter. Also joining We Love is artist Kaz James, who can play across the spectrum with anyone from Seth Troxler to Erick Morillo, who will be holding down a bi-weekly residency.
So the jury is out, it’s always a risk moving a successful night to a different venue but it’s part and parcel of growing a brand and moving on. Well we for one, are looking forward to the move and the 17th June! For tickets click here.
