Review – IMS at the Dalt Villa – Day 1

We had that beautiful feeling of knowing the IMS this year was going to be as magical as ever. It always is, let’s be honest. Arriving and watching the sun go down against the beautiful backdrop of the Dalt Villa whilst listening to the intense baselines of Ibiza legend Luciano, there wasn’t much more an Ibiza lover would ask for.

With the big club openings in sight, there is always a sense of frantic energy among the islanders who have been waiting for a quality Ibiza night all winter. We’d set up for the evening on top of the castle along with a few thousand others looking to get our party kicks out of Pete Tong, Luciano, Damian Lazarus and the Ancient Moons, Solomun and finally papa Sven Väth to close the show.

Earlier in the day Damian had introduced himself with the Ancient Moons at the IMS conference so we were a bit more in the know of what to expect than the average joe who may be used to Lazarus’ sets at DC10. After building up a more than reputable reputation in musical circles already, it was all open eyes and ears to see what his new project was all about.

Their performance was incredible and it was nice to hear something different than the usual DJ sets we love to listen to all summer. Vocal performances from the Ancient Moons against the deep baselines and instrumentals was refreshing and we look forward to new release ‘Lovers’ Eyes (Mohe Pi Ki Najariya)’ on June 30th from this new act.

Solomun was up next and came in much harder than expected but with only an hour to please the eager crowd before him we’re guessing he felt like he had to get going quickly. His energetic set kept the crowd at it’s peak party vibe until finally an hour of Sven to close the show came around.

Track changes from Sven were fast and furious but still allowed him to get into his techno stride which the crowd were clearly appreciating what with all the fist bumping throughout and fierce applause that erupted at the end of the set.

A playtime of around an hour per DJ isn’t usually enough to get the crowd going or spark much of a rapport but all the acts kept the audience on their feet, dancing away to what was an incredible night at the Dalt Villa.

The energy among the crowd bounced around all night long. The final whistle was blown a bit too abruptly for us and we were all sent on our way back down the windy paths to reality. IMS at the Dalt Villa is a great event to ease us into the party season, not forgetting the captivating conferences and talks given from the big wigs in the music industry.

This season Hard Rock hosted the IMS conference and it was a great event where the industry leaders and musical bods rubbed shoulders to converse about the important and trending topics going on in the world of electronic music today.

Although the IMS at the Dalt Villa is just a one off event, this summer you will be pleased to hear that they will host a few more events, to read more about these and for ticket click here.
