We’d never refuse a DC10 opening and with it being one of the first major clubs to open for the season we were chomping at the bit to get back to our favourite raving garden in Ibiza.
Circo Loco always opens DC10 and the line up as ever featured the likes of Jamie Jones, Davide Squillace, Tania Vulcano, Apollonia, Richy Ahmed, Ellen Allien, Tale of Us, Dubfire,Kerri Chandler and many more.
Walking into the garden at just before 5pm, we joined the small group of eager beavers like us cutting some shapes on the dance floor to Clive Henry before Circo Loco favourites, System of Survival took to the decks.
We poked our heads into the terrace at 7pm to see a bit of Sossa and to enjoy dancing freely, with no crowds on the sun soaked dance floor. For us, the garden being open all night is a bit of a novelty so we were keen to get back outside ready for Tania Vulcano followed by Apollonia.
Tania Vulcano absolutely smashed it and as ever played with a poker straight face no doubt feeling as much at home as the rest of the Circo Loco DJ crew standing behind her and with Apollolonia set at the sidelines ready to start their two and a half hour set we’d pitched up for the next couple of hours at the front of the garden ready to get our first Apollonia fix of the season. The trio did not disappoint with a deep set suiting the mood perfectly as the sun went down and day had transformed to night.
After Shonky, Dan Ghenacia and Dyed Soundorom destroyed the garden and day had turned to night, the main room was calling us for a bit of Ellen Allien. Ellen’s set was immense and the dark main room sent us into a techno infused musical galaxy as we moved along to the beat from the Berlin born star.
We missed our favourite duo, the Martinez Brothers who weren’t scheduled to play but no doubt we’ll be seeing enough of their cheeky faces at the club throughout the season. For tickets to Circo Loco this season click here.
After Ellen we were waiting for Davide Squillace’s set in the garden to start for 2.30am but for technical reasons he didn’t play. Although it was disappointing that he never appeared as he’s hands down one of our favourite people to listen to, it didn’t take anything away from the magical Circo Loco vibe that had been in the air all day and night.
The biggest surprise of the night was the ease of being able to move through the crowd, walking from room to room, bathroom to bar. Usually at the openings and closings of DC10, after arriving early, it’s usually only a matter of time before the crowds get too much and it’s time to call it a day but this opening was different. Noticeably less people were in the venue for whatever reason which only made it a more enjoyable experience all round.
Thank god Circo Loco is back in our lives. We can now get that sweet satisfaction of loving Mondays whilst the rest of our mates back home in England or wherever are slumped over a desk wishing their day away. Evil, but hey, they could always join us on the beautiful White Isle.
