The Perseids Meteor Shower – 12/13th August 2023

The astronomical and prolific extravaganza can be witnessed from the islands of Ibiza and Formentera again, on the 13th 14th of August.

One of the highlights for lovers of the clear night sky.

This stunning meteor shower occurs once a year.

It happens when earth travels through a cloud of dust, which is left behind from the ‘Comet Swift-Tuttle‘.

The debris is named the Perseid cloud, which comes from the Greek word Perseidai.

Perseidai were the sons of Perseus. The heroic ancient-Greek figure, and mythical son of Zeus and Argive princess DanaëPerseus was also famous for slaying Medusa, in a brutal battle between good and evil.

Viewable with the naked eye, you can experience something truly remarkable on the night.

The Perseids meteor shower was active from the 7th July, but will continue until around the 24th August. Its peak will be this weekend, so don’t miss it

Expect a glowing shower of otherworldliness, reminding us that were are not the only forces at play in the universe.

With hundreds of meteors per-hour shooting through the airspace, it’s something unforgettable, and well worth a watch if you’re here.

It will be clearer to see from the Northern Hemisphere but wherever you are, keep a look out and hope for the best!

The places with minimal pollution will make for a better sighting.

The ideal times to see it will be from 10pm on the 12th August, until around 4.30am on the 13th.
