IN REVIEW: ENTER. WEEK 6 – HALF WAY THROUGH THE SEASON…

By Sarah McNally

The white isle is in its peak season right now. Tourists from every corner of the world are jet setting to the worlds best party island to get a piece of the dance floor. Looking around Ibiza in August – beaches are filled with beautiful, exotic people. Restaurants require a reservation if you would like to eat, dance floors have no real estate left and of course, every party has opened and is in its full swing!!!

Undoubtedly dubbed the best techno party on the island, ENTER. has reached it’s 6th week of success. Bringing in a full throttle line up of international talent, this edition of ENTER. was sure to be a goodie. Anyone looking to stomp it out to some dark, ominous techno in the world’s most iconic nightclub, Space, was in for a real treat.

Techno maestro himself, Richie Hawtin would be kicking things off in the Sake Lounge alongside Hito & Roi Perez. The main room in Space was going to be treated to the sounds of English techno act Whyt Noize, Canadian live act Mark Houle, and headlined again by Richie Hawtin. The terrace was going to be absolutely owned by Irishman Mano Le Tough and techno god Maceo Plex, while in the Mind Room Blind Observatory and Matthew Hawtin would be throwing it down.

I was amped for the night to arrive and determined to attempt to clone myself so that I could witness and experience history go down in all area’s of Space. The first room that I decided to check out was The Terrace. I arrived just as infectious Mano Le Tough had stepped up to the decks, an act undeniably worth arriving early for. The dance floor was already packed, but not in an offensive way; still plenty of room to bust out the moves and feel the music. My expectations were met immediately as Mano grooved with the crowd dropping beautiful works of techno creating cheers and shouts from the crowd. Mano Le Tough’s set was outstanding, weaving effortlessly through carefully selected tracks and setting the standard for the night.

As Mano Le Tough came near the end of his set, I immediately made my way into the main room to catch some of Mark Houle’s music. He has long been one of my favorite Canadian techno acts, and seeing him play numerous times, but not yet in Ibiza, It was safe to say I was quite excited. He has never let me down before, and tonight was no different. He brings his A game no matter what, and is all about properly creating a layered set of carefully selected techno. If that is what you are after, that is what you will get – I was happy to be fist pumping out in the middle of the packed and sweaty dance floor getting lost in the music alongside everyone else.

One artist that I was dying to check out, because of the insane success throughout this Ibiza season thus far was Maceo Plex. I have only witnessed him behind the decks at Hyte over at Amnesia, and was curious to see him in a different environment; the ENTER. environment, to see if the music would be mixed up a little. Taking over from Mano, he proved to be in complete control. He dazzled all the raving revelers on the dance floor and cranked up the intensity almost immediately. Maceo could be seen bopping and dancing as he threw down old school tracks, as well as new thumping techno with his classic sexy twist on the music. He caused The Terrace to go absolutely crazy and had everyone clinging on to every last track he dropped. Proper Maceo fashion, I would say.

Last but not least, it was time to check out the creator of all this madness. As I peeled myself away from The Terrace, I could already hear the intense and dark techno creeping its away already into my ears from the Main room. The room was entirely filled with pulsating, moving bodies as Richie Hawtin could be seen from behind the decks. It’s as though he resembled a conductor, guiding a crowd full of people in unison. Along with the eerie and dark decorations adding to the entire vibe, it truly is quite the musical experience. Richie of course did not disappoint; his innovative and inspiring DJ sets are still amazingly unique and untouchable. Bravo Richie.

ENTER. is the place to be if you want to experience one of the most innovative & creative techno events on the island.
