REVIEW – HYTE AMNESIA IBIZA

Review by Sarah McNally.

The 2015 Ibiza season’s opening parties have come and gone, and the ones left on the island (workers and tourists) get to find themselves nestled in a sweet fragment of the summer that is quite unique; parties in full swing, yet the clubs & venues not too packed! That only means one thing: more room to dance!

This summer, HYTE, the global event series that is famous for hosting events in some of the best party places on the planet has hit the island once more in a brand new way. They are taking over world famous super club Amnesia and bringing the best in international DJ’s, upcoming talent, music labels and brands. Like minded party people of the island can look forward to stomping the floor of the terrace & main room every Wednesday with the best tech-house and techno vibrating within it’s walls.

The successful opening night of HYTE that featured Loco Dice, Point G (live), Mar-T & Cuartero continued with its success with the 2nd party of it’s weekly series keeping everyone dancing all night long. An all-star line up of Maceo Plex, Mano Le Tough, Pan Pot, Guti & Rebolledo was sure to cure anyone in need of dance floor therapy. With an attractive line up like that, what more did you need?

Walking into Amnesia, we found ourselves immediately on the terrace; it’s as if this room has a magnet that just pulls you to the middle of the dance floor. The world-class sound system and laser production hit us with vibrating bass lines and colors of red, blue and green from every angle. Mexican master & one half of Pachanga Boys, Rebolledo was putting on a clinic behind the decks already early in the evening. His love for disco and groovy sounds had our legs injected with fire and set the tone for what was sure to be a magical night of music.

Meanwhile, in the main room was Guti, fresh from his gig over at Beach House, at the event People Like Us. His live performance was unique and eclectic, as usual for this artist. His sets are always filled with different flavor, incorporating many different sounds to get the dance floor swaying. Highly musically trained, you can always get a sense of his Latin roots as he injects jazz, Latin, and ambience while he spins for the crowd.

After Guti, Berlin based techno duo Pan Pot hit the decks and changed the energy in the room once more. Bringing up the bpm, their signature sound created a bouncy rhythm and you could feel the intensity brought up another notch on the dance floor. Pan Pot themselves were grooving almost in sync with all of the revelers beneath them. Pan Pots success this year will no doubt see them creating grooves all summer long in Amnesia this season.

We weaved through the now packed crowd in Amnesia back to the beloved terrace to commit to the musical sounds of Irish man Mano Le tough. He started his set out slow, with a smooth yet bouncy, progressive groove and had everyone vibing in a cool, calm way. He kept his signature style of groovy, ambient beats going as the dance floor started to fill. As time passed, he took the rhythm up a notch with tracks like Cancion (Para Ti) by Marvin & Guy and Gosh by Jamie XX. His superior spinning helped create an awesome atmosphere on the terrace, right in time for Maceo Plex to take control.

Mano Le Tough had created this ambience, something unusual for the terrace of Amnesia, but it wasn’t long before Maceo Plex changed things up. His dark, ominous techno paired with melodic female vocals were immediately pounded out of the speakers letting partygoers know who was in charge. Maceo Plex was into his set as much as everyone around him, as he was seen bopping and grooving in the DJ booth. Maceo weaved through his set harmoniously with classics like Relax Your Body by DFX and Dino Lenny’s Living in a Song (Gardens of God remix) that had everyone going crazy.

Maceo had us dancing all night long and had us close down the terrace with the famous Conjure Baleria, where in typical Maceo fashion, everyone got low for one last drop. The music this night proved that everyone is off to a great season, and Wednesday’s HYTE at Amnesia will be many celebrators favorite night out!
