In review: Glitterbox at Space Ibiza – where the music sparkles!

Reviewed by Jodie DS. I have only been in club world for 10 years now, but in that space of time I have seen enough one hit wonders to fill a football oval. So when artists with more than 20 years of dominating dance floors fill the Terrace of one of the most famous clubs, my ears prick up a little! Simon Dunmore created a night last summer giving legends across the decades a “free reign to educate and entertain”. With no limits to charts or genres I had no idea what to expect, but with names like Todd Terry and Dimitri from Paris on the line up, I knew I was in store for some serious house and disco. Friday night I danced my way down to check out Defected’s newest night, Glitterbox at Space Ibiza!

Before even making my way inside I could hear some deep funk coming from the Terrace. Already dancing I made my way inside to see glammed up girls and boys posing against the Glitterbox wallpaper. Next to this was a huge line of people waiting in to be painted with glitter! As much as I love glitter and I would like to be covered in it, I wasn’t going to miss out on getting my boogie on to Purple Disco Machine. Walking into the terrace I saw the Glitterbox logo cast across the walls behind the DJ, with hundreds of bodies drenched in pink and purple lights. I looked up to see giant disco balls hung from above, it had a real discothèque feel to it. I managed to catch a few tracks of Purple Disco Machine before Dimitri from Paris had me singing along to some of my favourite tracks.

It was time for a drink and to see what else Glitterbox had to offer. On the way I was sure to pick myself up a Glitterbox fan to cool me down from all of that dancing. I made my way into the El Salon showing off my new fan to see Mo Funk tearing it up. This Aussie is no stranger to Ibiza holding residencies at some of the biggest parties on the island over the years! The dance floor was rammed, so I grabbed my vodka lemon and squeezed my way centre stage. Before I knew it, I had got lost in time and had realized Hercules and Love Affair were about to start. I raced into the Terrace and you would never believe as I walked in, the glitter canons exploded across the dance floor, covering everyone in glitter and confetti! Looking around me everyone put their hands up, with big smiles on their faces! Other than this, the highlight of their set for me was when they ripped off their glamorous outfits to reveal a swimming costume, it was great!

Next up was Tensnake. This was my first time seeing him play. Being a long-time lover of his track “Coma Cat” let’s just say I was a little excited. He didn’t disappoint either, his set was on point! They say time flies when you are having fun, Tensnake’s set was over before I knew it and master Todd Terry was up. I am a huge fan, he has remixed some of my favourite tracks over the years. I have had the pleasure seeing him this year now already 4 times! This was by far his best performance yet though, so much energy; he really knows how to get the crowd going. Every week at Glitterbox Savage send a different set of dancers for a new and exciting performance. This week Sink The Pink danced their glittery bodies until the very end.

It was honestly like going on a journey back through time, skipping across from generation to generation. It reminded me of times I had been singing around the house with my parents growing up. Some people have been coming to Ibiza for more than 15 years, so for people like that this night is just perfect! If you are looking for a night that is all about the music, dancing, singing, glamour and of course glitter, then this is the night is for you. Boogie down this Friday to see Kings of Tomorrow, Aeroplane, Smokin Jo, John Morales and DJ Pippi. If you can’t make it this Friday don’t worry, the closing isn’t until September 25th and of course Glitterbox will be back next summer, without a doubt!
