In Review: Jamie Jones’ Paradise DC10

I Landed on a Planet Called Paradise by Sarah McNally

DC-10 at its best is an island favorite when it comes to clubbing done right. From its beginning back in 1999, it’s bizarre location (being steps away from the runway of the airport) and infamous all day Monday parties filled with underground techno quickly made this a hot spot destination to be at, when one is in Ibiza.

The club sure has seen its share of changes – but one thing is for sure, DC-10 has always kept its promise to bring you the best in talent and real music. When it was announced that Jamie Jones had grabbed another residency every Wednesday at DC-10, to show case Paradise Records; the countdown for the July 1st opening truly began. The program for the summer is a stacked one, offering a mouthwatering line up for all underground house music revellers.

As I arrived to the DC-10 hangar a little past sunset I could see the line-up out front of the club swelling and party people dispensing out of taxi’s pumped to commemorate the start of a new season and a new night at the much loved night club. Positive energy felt everywhere, I was excited to get onto my rocket ship and travel to A Planet Called Paradise!

The line-up being served to the partygoers of the night was stacked. From Paradise backbone Mark Jenkyns, Richy Ahmed and Maya Jane Coles both hailing from the UK, Germany’s talented duo Ame, Matthew Johnson and Ryan Elliot it was bound to be an unforgettable night. The headliners of the night was Hot Creations man himself Jamie Jones and the much-loved legendary Martinez Brothers duo that were treating us to a 5 hour back to back set in the terrace – wow.

I arrived into the main room to check out Mark Jenkyns as he has garnered quite the reputation on the White Isle. He’s known for injecting rooms full of groove and funky bass and properly getting a party started. He was doing just that, weaving through some hi-tempo, feel good tracks that the party brand is known for. Some say that Jenkyns has an innate ability to read the dance floor, knowing exactly when to change things up and around, and this is absolutely true.

The terrace’s magnetic energy had gotten ahold of me, as it does for many, so I went to check out the musical stylings of Richy Ahmed. This artist is at the top of his game right now, heading the British house music scene, so it’s always a treat to see him grooving behind the decks. Weaving through to the front of the crowd was a mission; maybe the room was absolutely slammed because Richy had already gotten right down to business. The Paradise resident was going through the motions behind his decks, fist pumping himself and infusing the energy from his spinning directly into the crowd in front of him. With Richy behind the decks, the room was not letting up as he delivered massive drops and groovy anthems to keep everyone dancing.

After deciding to take a break from the Terrace’s craziness, I headed back over to the main room to see what German duo Ame were getting up to. It seemed as though Maya Jane Coles had switched times, and was already behind the decks. Now in the main room, there was ample room to dance and groove and thick lines of blue and green lasers hit my body from every angle. The talented producer and audio engineer was up to her usual sexy tech house sounds, dropping her own tracks, Dreamer and Stranger that had everyone on a really nice groove.

Once again, I Interlaced my way through the crowd to get back to the infamous terrace, as it was time to get some back to back action between island favorite’s Jamie Jones and The Martinez Brothers. They know the definition of groove, they know how to get your hands in the air, and they know how to make you dance. The trio was at play up on those decks; dancing, grooving, hugging and they dropped hit after hit for all their party-people. It was incredibly busy and you were lucky to get a square meter to get your dance on, but when the vibe is this good, I find you forget these things in order to get lost in the music. It was 5 hours of bliss with a dash of chaos (obviously;)) and these three talented artists turned the hedonistic hang out upside down and took things to another level.

Paradise is off to a brilliant start this season. The infectious energy and good vibes are contagious with the crowd pleasing, groovy beats that this party is known for. Paradise at DC-10 will welcome some of the best names in electronic music this season, and we are excited to firmly plant down our feet on their planet.
