Review: Circo Loco at DC10 opening party 2014

Everyone in Ibiza is feeling the ‘opening fever’ at the moment as all the clubs and parties kick back into summer action on the White Isle. The opening parties are always a highlight of the summer, a time where locals, tourists and workers come together to celebrate the beginning of another wonderful season.

There’s one thing that’s sure every year, Circo Loco opening which doubles up as DC10 opening is always packed, usually at full capacity way before sunset and as much as we love dancing squashed next to our mates we decided to get there early, enjoy the sunshine and arrive before the mad rush started.

There’s something about Circo Loco that is quite magical. Aside from the bad-ass line up each week, unbelievable music and great energy, there’s nothing quite like partying on a Monday afternoon when you know everyone else back at home is working. Cruel but true. The line up for the party featured a shed load of talent from the usual DC10 suspects; Tania Vulcano, Dubfire, Matthias Tanzmann, David Squillace, Kerri Chandler, Dubfire, Dan Ghenacia, Cassy and many many more.

We got to DC10 around 5pm and pitched up in the garden. The crowd was happy, enjoying the hot sun and taking advantage of the dancing space. DC10 resident Clive Henry was mid way through his set and the atmosphere was positively electric. The music was turned up and Henry was playing a cool set to get us into the party mood, not that we needed much of an excuse.

It was filling up slowly in the outside area and although we fancied listing to Richy Ahmed’s set he was playing in the terrace and it seemed a shame to be missing out on the sun so we stayed for Kevin Yost who was up next in the Garden. Yost absolutely blew our minds. We were a few hours in at this point and the line up was only just getting started. The music as ever in DC10 was deep and dark and transporting us on an underground musical journey.

The Garden by 8.30pm was getting pretty full with fresh new people ready to get their rave on and with the sun going down we moved on into the terrace where Cirillo was thrashing out deep chunky beats to an enthusiastic crowd. Black Coffee was up next and the party was really in full swing. We could really feel the energy from the people and with the bass line sending shudders down our spine it was turning into one of those unforgettable parties.

All the rooms were packed out with everyone wanting to soak up some of that special Circo Loco magic that the party has become so famous for. Getting there early meant we had adapted gradually to the growing crowd but there was no getting around the venue easily come 1am and finding a space to dance. Despite this Tania Vulcano played an incredible set and when the bass line stopped and then reappeared the crowd went insane.

It was when the last DJ played in the garden that we decided to call it a night, Tanzmann was absolutely smashing it to a huge adoring crowd. It had been an amazing opening party, one of the best Circo Loco openings we’ve ever been to. We left whilst the music was thumping and there was still a long queue of eager fans outside wanting to get in. It’s alright we thought to ourselves as we reluctantly left, there will be plenty more Monday afternoons this season.

Circo Loco every Monday at DC10. Do not miss out this season and reserve your tickets for just €5 here
